Aquatic Accessories

Dry eyes.  Cracked lips.  Skin with scales so enormous that you end up snagging all your sweaters.  Isn’t this time of year just wonderful?  The heat is turned up so high at many of our jobs that it makes you sweat like Michael Jordan.  For a little relief from the heat, here are some marine life accessories that should help keep your mind on moisture.

Coral Turquoise Fantasy Necklace by Connor Inspires Amy, $27.50 http://www.etsy.com

Even though the necklace itself has nothing to do with marine life, the rose is made from coral.  And whether or not coral the gemstone is in any way related to coral reef…well, I spent a whole 3 minutes researching this conundrum and found nothing useful.  But if you look really hard, the turquoise beads kinda resemble water bubbles.  Right?

Pleated Champagne Clutch with Ivory Ostrich Feathers & Vintage Brooch by LAK Handbags, $55 http://www.etsy.com

May I make a suggestion?  Try using this clutch for a formal event.  It’s always more fun when you can dress up jeans and heels with a fun, bold clutch.  That way, the clutch has a chance to stand out more.

Goldfish Necklace with Swarovski Crystals by lollipasso1977, $70 http://www.etsy.com

If you are more into making a statement, this necklace is the way to go.

Belts and Corsets: Or Ways To Look Slimmer Without Giving Up Food

Belts and corsets are frequently needed around this time of year.  If you are anything like me, you have already tried to lose a couple of pounds before the holidays so that when you inevitably over-eat during the festivities, you somehow return to your original weight.  So fear not, I have found a few waist cinchers that are actually cute enough to wear without feeling like you have a huge sign over your head that reads, “Compensating for overeating.”

The Preppy Look, My Way

For the moment, Alex P. Keaton is my style hero, and I am doing everything imaginable to add more preppy items to my wardrobe.  Khakis are a staple of the preppy wardrobe.  Pair slim khakis with a modern, updated cardigan sweater.  Wear a fitted Letterman jacket with wide-leg trousers for a perfect “back to school” look.  Finish the look with a great pair of Oxford shoes.  Now all you need is a friend named Skippy.
